ABSTRACT
Surface movement and deformation caused by pumping from confined aquifers pose serious threats to the safety and stability of surface buildings. A model for surface movement and deformation due to confined aquifer pumping is established based on the principle of coordinated strata deformation in which the effects of the aquifer thickness, elastic modulus, pumping capacity, and overlying strata thickness are comprehensively considered. The model calculation results for surface subsidence caused by pumping from a confined aquifer in Dezhou City, Shandong Province, China are compared with numerical simulation results to verify the accuracy and rationality of the model.
