ABSTRACT
The fatigue response of additively manufactured maraging steel MS1 produced by laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) was experimentally investigated. Uniaxial tension-compression fatigue tests were conducted at cycle asymmetry ratios R = −1, −0.5, and 0 to assess the influence of mean stress on fatigue life. The results demonstrated a pronounced effect of the stress ratio on fatigue performance. Two-step loading sequences – low-high (Lo-Hi) and high-low (Hi-Lo) – were applied to examine damage accumulation under non-constant loading conditions. A load asymmetry sensitivity factor was determined and the applicability of classical fatigue damage models was evaluated.
